MARCH 26,
2008
HOWDY!
an' a fair and hearty Equinox(ious) greeting to all you loyal
readers....
Well, they
tell us it's Spring and the calendar agrees; now if only we could
get Ma Nature onboard with the notion. I don't know about any
of you, but I myself am tired of freezing my butt off. Okay enough
whining.... On with the NEWS:
THIRDSTONE
NEWS
Spring is
always a busy time 'round the ol' ThirdStone Ranchito. Our big
crazy-as-heck garage sale last week was only the beginning of
seasonal transition. It helped to clear some space for our new
layout but first there's more Spring cleaning and painting and
such to get done before the real fun begins.
New art works
are arriving for the coming busy season and, we still have many
selected works sale priced too (until April 1). There are still
some very cool store fixtures and nice furniture pieces for sale
so be sure and stop by for a look when your in the area.
MORE NEW STUFF
A'HAPPENIN' HERE/ NEW CONSIGNMENTS WANTED:
Late in April you'll see the launch of our expanded vintage,
art resale, antiques and funkjunk departments, but if you visit
before then, you'll find that lots of new stuff is already sneaking
in the back door as we speak. When we do officially launch the
season, I'll be taking on some select consignments of cool vintage
stuff, deco, 50's and mid-century furniture and, for the first
time ever, some special artworks that you may wish to put up
for adoption from your own collections... Our new online art
and decor site (DecorFabu.com) is almost ready to launch and
will be setup to market such things to the whole planet as well
as locally from our showroom here so, if you have any of the
above that you think is special, send me an email to Brucemonster@gmail.com
telling me what you have. If it sounds like what I'm after, we'll
arrange to get it here and ready for sale to the world.
ThirdStone
main website update:
Yep, I'm gettin' closer. Soon, all of the new artist pages will
be up, all with fresh works and most available for online sales.
Since this is turning out to be a very time-consuming effort
(with so many new works to add), I've decided to postpone our
next online-only-show until mid-April when the new artist pages
will all be ready and loaded. Meanwhile, our most recent online
show continues and you can see that at: http://www.thirdstoneartgallery.com/online-show2-group.html.
AND...
This Spring will finally see the launch of a few new ThirdStone
"Departments"... A lot more musical instruments and
gear is on the way and our new book and music sections will be
up and running soon as well. I'll have more info on that in an
upcoming issue as well as a rundown of some cool and interesting
Spring events that are slated.
Looking to
buy:
As part of our expanding mini-universe, I'm looking to buy Heywood
- Wakefield furniture pieces, nice mid-century furnishings and
musical gear and instruments of all sorts If you or anyone you
know has stuff they'd like to put up for adoption, let me know.
I'm also occasionally buying a few other items including vintage
lamps and furniture.
Okay; that's
this week T'Stone update.

Services (macslanding.com), as well as Deb Scanzillo from Dogs

Best Friends
Animal Sanctuary dedicates over 3,000 acres of land to animals
of all kinds. They are a no-kill haven for dogs, cats, birds,
horses, reptiles you name it! They work with humane groups
all across the country to bring about a time when there are No
More Homeless Pets. Until then they have sworn to take
in every animal in need of a home, and see to it that they live
out their lives happy and cared for! The Sanctuary is located
at the heart of Southern Utah's Golden Circle of national parks,
and is home, on any given day, to over 1,500 dogs, cats, horses,
rabbits, birds and other animals. Best Friends reaches across
the nation, helping humane groups, individual people, and entire
communities to set up spay/neuter, shelter, foster, and establish
adoption programs in their own neighborhoods, cities, and states.
The mission of Best Friends is driven by the simple philosophy
that kindness to animals helps build a better world for all of
us. Their work is supported entirely through the donations of
members and supporters like us. With our contributions, we can
help ensure that animals who come into the care of Best Friends
will never again be alone, hungry, sick, afraid, or in pain.
Once they arrive at Best Friends, nothing bad will ever happen
to them again. Many of them are ready to go to new homes with
loving families, while others find lifetime care at the nation's
largest sanctuary. There's just nothing else like it anywhere!
All ages are
welcome! A minimum donation of $20 is suggested - although donations
are anonymous unless a receipt is requested - so please give
what ever you can! Remember - 100% of the proceeds will go directly
to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.
Thanks everyone! - PASS THE WORD AROUND to everyone in town!!!!!
Blessings to all of you!

NEW RICHMOND STURGEON PROJECT MOVES FORWARD - NEXT MEETING THIS
SATURDAY
Attend an educational meeting entitled "Lake Sturgeon Research
and Restoration in West Michigan" on March 29 in Holland,
Michigan. The lake sturgeon is an important component of our
region's Great Lakes and riverine ecosystems, and our collective
fisheries heritage. It is the largest fish in Michigan, and
is currently at 1% of its former abundance in the Great Lakes
due to
historic overfishing and habitat loss. Recent research has revealed
new insights regarding sturgeon populations in West Michigan,
and improved our understanding of how restoration projects should,
or should not, proceed. Find out how you can get involved in
helping this 'living fossil' recover in West Michigan, and what
is already being done to help sturgeon in other Michigan waters
at our upcoming meeting.
Michigan Sea
Grant Extension will host this meeting on Saturday, March 29,
2008 from 1 to 5 PM at the Doubletree Hotel at 650 East 24th
Street, Holland, Michigan. The agenda features presentations
by Sturgeon for Tomorrow President Brenda Archambo, Michigan
Department of Natural Resources Fisheries Biologist Kregg Smith,
and Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Inland Fisheries Biologist
Marty Holtgren. A panel discussion featuring groups involved
in sturgeon research and restoration in West Michigan will follow
formal presentations.
This meeting
is open to the public. Advanced registration is free, and registration
at the door is $7.00. Refreshments and a light snack will be
provided for all in attendance. A complete agenda/registration
form with directions is available on the Michigan Sea Grant website
http://www.miseagrant.umich.edu/downloads/fisheries/SturgeonMtgFlyer-3-2008.pdf.
Please forward this message to anyone who might be interested
in attending. CONTACT:Dan O'Keefe, okeefed@msu.edu

MARCH
8, 2008
this week's
big event, our annual integral funkjunk sale - DON'T MISS IT,
DAMMIT!

February 15, 2008
Hi Folks,
Okay.. here's a steaming fresh pile o'news for ya's.. have at
it and start marking those calendars...
THIRDSTONE
NEWS AND NOTES:
YEP.. IT'S
FINALLY 'LIVE': PLEASE CHECK OUT OUR NEW ONLINE ONLY SHOW HERE:
http://www.thirdstoneartgallery.com/online-show2-group.html
Well, it took
a bit longer than I expected but, it's also lots bigger than
was originally planned so, I think it just might be worth waitin'
for... with 15 artists featured and almost 80 new works, it's
a nice way to showcase the broad variety of styles and media
that ThirdStone's become known for over the last 12 years.
NEW T'STONE
'ROAD SHOWS' TO LAUNCH.. WE NEED YOUR HELP
This will now be a regular feature with a new batch launched
every 4 weeks. Take a look and let me know what you think. Also,
I'd like to ask for your help... As I'm planning to take ThirdStone
out on the road to various places around the country and the
world later this year (yes, I know.. this articular plan has
taken a very long time to finally get underway), I'd like to
ask all of you (our brave and faithful E-news readers) to help
spread the word by passing along the link above to all of the
art-interested folks you may know, located anywhere and everywhere...
NEW WEBSITE
COMING IN MARCH:
Along with our new series of "Online-Only" shows, the
lumpybumpy ThirdStone website is getting a major facelift too...
All of the new individual artist pages will be up before the
next online show flies. There we'l have artist statements, phtos,
bios and both new "available" works (both online and
in the gallery) and archives of their very best over time. Along
with that, we'll be adding some other new features fun stuff
and of course, a healthy smattering of our legendary major weirdness...
more news on that soon. Watch it evolute right before your very
eyes at www.thirdstoneartgallery.com.
THIRDSTONE
INDOOR GARAGE SALE AND ART SALE (still coming soonly):
Yes, I realize I mentioned this a couple times now as "coming
soon". And it is, reallynoshitreally! Just not quite as
soon as I'd originally thought... Being that I wanna facilitate
a complete revamp/redesign of our new home before the busy Spring
season arrives, I've decided to go just a wee bit further than
I'd originally concocted. Now, in addition to most of our cool
gallery furniture and fixtures and, our ever-expanding antiques,
collectibles, "funkjunk" and bizarre sacred objects
department, it's also gonna include selected artworks from the
ThirdStone Archive Catacombs, plus a few gems from my own "overstocked"
art collection, and then even more cool furniture, books, music,
toolz-n-toys and useful/funky/silly/valuable/near-worthless/goofy/sacred/profane
stuff from the tantalizingly mysterious and overfilled "secret
ThirdStone storage warehouse and bat-cave" (which of course,
is in an "undisclosed location" but rumoured to be
somewhere 'twixt Saturn and Neptune).
Anyway, I
WILL ABSOLUTELY have dates and times for you in the next issue.
And as an added incentive to visit this strangecool as heck,
one-of-a-kind non-linear-rodeo-doodah-circus event, ALL of the
art in the gallery will be at special prices too. So get ready
to bring your friends, your trucks and your piggybanks....date
will be announced next issue

THE LATEST FROM SATYA YOGA CENTER - CHARITABLE YOGA AND NEW CLASSES/EVENTS
Here's Michele's
latest report on everything (LOTS!) going on at Satya; Check
out what's new in February:
*NEW* SPECIAL
SATURDAY AFTERNOON/EVENING EVENTS!
These events have been planned with YOU in mind! We try to gear
these programs towards families or friends who need or want to
enjoy some quality (fun!) time together. All of these programs
are open to ALL AGES. No pre-registration is required. See below
for class descriptions:
SATURDAY,
FEBRUARY 16: SELF DEFENSE WORKSHOP ~ 3:00pm - 4:30pm
This workshop is led by Master Guidry of the Legacy School of
Martial Arts. The philosophy behind this class is to help teach
the student how to prevent and/or avoid a potentially dangerous
encounter. This class offers a tremendous opportunity to learn
how to defend ones self without having to resort to violence.
Wear comfortable clothing as we will be working some basic dis-engagement
techniques. All ages are welcome. Fees are as follows: $20 per
adult, $10 per teen/child ages 18 and under. A family discount
(family of four or more) is $50.
Note: The
"Charitable Yoga Class" (described below) will be an
on-going class offered each month with ALL PROCEEDS going directly
to the charity of the month.
SATURDAY,
FEBRUARY 23: YOGA FOR A CHARITABLE CAUSE ~
6:00pm - 8:00pm - Please join us for this wonderful "self-less"
(opposite of self-ish!) yoga class led by Michele to help raise
money for charitable causes. Our motto for this monthly on-going
class is: MAKE TIME - NOT EXCUSES.*
(*If you are
breathing - you can do this class.) No previous experience necessary,
all ages and levels welcome. Just because this may not directly
affect you or your family does not mean that it's less important.
There, now you have no excuse.
About the
cause:
For the month of February, ALL PROCEEDS for this class will go
to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital (http://www.stjude.org/about).
This is the TRUE (Satya) meaning of SERVICE (Seva) - "TAKING
OUR YOGA OFF THE MAT AND INTO THE WORLD!"
(ok - this is important my friends - read on.....) From their
site, ....."and St. Jude is unlike any other pediatric treatment
and research facility anywhere. Discoveries made here have completely
changed how the world treats children with cancer and other catastrophic
diseases. We are where some of today's most gifted researchers
are able to do more science, more quickly. Where doctors across
the world send their toughest cases and most vulnerable patients.
Where no one pays for treatment beyond what is covered by insurance,
and those without insurance are never asked to pay. All patients
accepted for treatment at St. Jude are treated without regard
to the family's ability to pay. (ok, so stop here, and read those
three lines over again.....) MAKE TIME TO JOIN US - NOT EXCUSES.
Let's offer up a group prayer to these children by moving our
bodies and breathing for them!
Suggested minimum donation is $20 per student. Donations are
anonymous, so we don't care if you give $1. Just come and be
part of the solution.

Music at RYE - Every Friday Night - All shows start at 8:00 p.m.
- Call 269-561-2269 for more info.
tonight Friday, February 15 - Andru Bemis
"The
songs of Andru Bemis are spiritually descended from an era when
music was made and played to express one's deepest emotions while
entertaining the neighbors. Andru's dynamic voice shifts effortlessly
between Woody Guthrie's plaintive bellow and the spine-chilling
intimacy of Iris DeMent. His delicate guitar work and impossibly
fast banjo style tie seamlessly with his lyrics and phrasing
to make each performance and album unforgettable." moreinfo

FEB 15 Fri
- CHRIS BATHGATE - folk / acoustic - (8pm, $5)
Ann Arbor,
MI - For those in and around the Ann Arbor vicinity it's difficult
to speak about Chris Bathgate without spiraling towards hyperbole.
Now, as the remainder of the globe gets ready for their first
glimpse at the talent who has risen to the top among the ever
fruitful Michigan music scene, perhaps it's better that we stick
with the facts surrounding Chris Bathgate. Having drawn comparisons
to Jeff Tweedy, Will Oldham, etc., Chris has risen from the ranks
of everyday singer/songwriter
to a national touring favorite, spending the early part of 2007
on the road with Saturday Looks Good to Me and making his first
trip to the SXSW Music Festival. After releasing and selling
out of two separate records on his own in 2006, he was recently
named the Best Solo Artist in Michigan by Real Detroit Weekly
and was approached by YerBird records to provide a track on
their upcoming compilation featuring additions from the likes
of Hayden, O'Death & Paleo. Additionally, Bathgate's song,
"Serpentine," was featured as NPR's January 15 song
of the day.

Greetings and Ramifications thereof, (huh?)
Yup, that's
right... After a brief hiatus, the ThirdStone E-news is back
in your inbox. There's lots going on here at ThirdStone AND in
and around the 'hood in coming weeks so let's get right to it.
THIRDSTONE
NEWS:
COMING NEXT
WEEK - OUR NEXT ONLINE-ONLY SHOW!
Our last one was a big success and many have asked when will
the next one happen... Finally, after much contemplation, cogitation
consternation, I can now answer that query more definitively...
Next week's newsletter send will announce all the details and
the official "launch-time" for those of you wanting
first crack at this round of offerings. I'll save the details
'til then other than to tell you all that this one will include
about a dozen artists and, more than 70 works of art. And just
like last time, all will include free shipping and our usual
satisfaction guarantee. I think you'll be pleased to see what
we've put together for this event.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
SPECIAL VALENTINE'S DAY SALE EVENT - NOW LIVE ON THE SITE - now
thru February 14th
Monique, our prolific jewelry designer diva, wants to remind
alla you guys out there that this is an opportunity to keep you
lads (well, only about a dozen or so of you) outta the doghouse
this Valentine's Day (and, save 25% in the process too!). She's
put together a group of stunning and innovative handmade, one-of-a-kind
designs that are available both online and here in the shop from
now thru February 14th. Just click the following link to take
a look: http:thirdstoneartgallery.com/
-------------------------------------------------------
INDOOR GARAGE SALE AND ART SALE COMING IN MID-FEBRUARY
Again, I'll promise you details in the next issue but for now
I'll just tell you that this will be quite unlike any of my previous
sale events. A huge treasure trove of antiques, collectibles,
furniture, household stuff, music stuff tool, books, music and
more will all be crammed into ThirdStone for this special 3-day
event. Many of the store fixtures and furnishings will be included
too. And for the artists and hobbyists out there, we'll have
lots of readymade frames in all kinds of styles and sizes, art
supplies of various kinds and plenty of other useful stuff. It's
my own demented way to clear some much-needed space to revamp
the shop before the impending busy season.I'm not quite sure
how bringing in a couple additional truckloads of stuff will
ultimately clear out space but hey, I've cooked up stranger theories
than that before (as many of you already, all-too-well know ;^).
And , during that same week, there'll be a SPECIAL ADJUNCT ART-SALE
TOO - Figuring that I might as well create as much chaos at one
time as possible, ALL of the art in the gallery will be 15% off
during the full week of the indoor garage sale period.... I figure
this crazinated-combo should really help clear some space! More
on all this next issue...
-----------------------------------------------------
EVEN MORE STUFF COMING TO THIRDSTONE IN COMING WEEKS:
Yeah, I'm on some kinda crazy roll here.. during January when
things are pretty quiet in Funnville, I find my soggy-dogbrain
whirling and twirling with some fresh ideas. I always seem to
like it best when things are in a steady evolutionary state.
To that end, in coming weeks and months you'll see the 'resurrection'
of the ThirdStone Institute with a broad array of artist-taught
classes and workshops.. to be held both here and in other nearby
locations. I'm also finally getting around to plotting our series
of ThirdStone shows heading out into the world to cities around
the planet. Watch too for our upcoming series of free "artist
demo" events and, some more reading/booksigning ones and
some musical performances as well.

A warm (tho still somewhat "chilled") greetin' to ya's...
Last issue
I promised you a sneak preview at our March Gallery show... However,
a couple intriguing possibilities have surfaced since that may
come into play so I'm going to hold off until next time to spill
it.
There is another
March event of interest that I can now tell you about though..Because
of our strong international popularity on the web, ThirdStone
has clients from all over the globe, most of whom we've never
met in-person for the obvious reasons. Still, I've been trying
to find a way to address some of their requests to make available
some of our show feature offerrings to those who cannot attend
our great opening events/artist receptions.
So, to make
sure I never get too much sleep, I've cooked up an idea to resume
(and refine) our Online Shows and to hold them as separate events
from our "in-house" shows on an alternating basis.
And the good news is that customers residing elsewhere on the
planet can have the same access to the art featured in our online
show as those who are in close proximity (translation of previous
blather "everyone gets to play by getting access to the
featured art all at the same time"). Also, artworks featured
in the Online Show will only be available online during the time
of the event (typically 2 to 3 weeks). After the online show
concludes, remaining works will be available right here at ThirdStone
World HQ.
We will still
have our regular "in-person" shows in the Gallery as
scheduled and will slip in teh online ones in-between. I'll have
all the details for you in the next issue. I guess that due to
the extra work this will require this means no more vacations
in tropical paradises for me (yeah, right! ;^). Ohwellhell....
at least it'll keep me amused, right?
As I mentioned,
more news on all of that coming soon.... before we get to the
rest of the events and news....
A couple Notes:
1. REMINDER: HOURS ThirdStone' open hours for this weekend are
by appointment. Call 269-561-8149 or email me... You're welcome
anytime! Regular hours (11AM til 4PM) resume beginning February
16 and by appointment, 24/7/364 - so there!
2. EMAILING
US: Please, do not send replies or emails to the Gmail address
from this newsletter. Instead of hitting "reply", send
you messages to " Artmonster@thirdstoned.com" only.
Messages sent there are all read and responded to; whereas, the
ones sent to this Gmail address will often end up 'lost"
or hoplessly buried. Also, don't be alarmed if it takes a while
to get a response. As this newsletter continues to grow its circulation,
my inbox frequently experiences 'avalanche syndrome" lately.
thanks!

Thirdstone News and 1st Friday in Funnville time
again
Okay..so how's
thiS for some dementedly twisted ThirdStone logic.. In the last
issue, I told ya all that we'd be taking a winter "break"
from regular hours for a couple weeks. Well, yeah. BUT. The prevailing
opinion is that "1ST FRIDAY'S IN FUNNVILLE" wouldn't
be sufficiently "funnish" if we took a break from that.
So, YEP, we heard ya's - we'll be here and open and, have a few
special features for ya too...
We'll have
a pile of Tom DePree's recent paintings available for viewing...a
sort of 'last chance' to see any of these before they head eastward.
Tom's getting ready for his upcoming show in D.C . later this
month so, any that remain after this next week or two, will be
shipped out for that event.Based on his last outing there, there
will likely be none of them coming back here after the show so,
if there are any of the current crop (and a few brand new ones
too) you fancy, now's the time (besides, Tom and I are savin'
up to buy a pony & need bucks!!! ;^).
Also, our
fave printmaker, Meg Perec, has delivered a big pile of her wonderful
etchings to replenish our depleted supply after her sales success
in our recent holiday show.. and, we now have a lot of them,
including the newest works, already framed and, some available
as unframed pieces too.If you haven't yet seen Meg's work, you're
in for a terrific treat!
There are
a few more surprises gracing our walls for 1st Friday too including
new paintings from Michelle Maicki, lotsa those cool and crazy
birds from Liz Nurenberg and lots of Cindy Ricksgers delectable
collographs but you'll just have to visit us here then to get
the full story. This month''s 1st Friday event will take place
from 5 til 8PM.
A couple Notes:
1. REMINDER: HOURS ThirdStone' open hours for the next two weeks
(including weekends) are by appointment. Call 269-561-8149 or
email me... You're welcome anytime!

MORE 1ST FRIDAY
STUFF...
Gebben | Gray
Gallery:
Theresa and Kristin have an enjoyable viewing experience planned
for you this Friday evening from 5 til 8PM. Be sure to stop in
for a look (HINT: ya might wanna ask 'em if any of Theresa's
recent series of astoundingly luscious feather paintings are
still available in case they're not on display Friday. They're
a special treat not to be missed)
First Friday's Music At Journeyman Cafe: Iowa Rose
The First Friday concert series continues with Iowa Rose playing
on Friday, February 2nd. Enjoy the eclectic mix of original bluegrass
and folk. The music begins at 7:30 and continues until 10:00
P.M. Due to seating capacity, group sizes will be limited to
ten people per table, and some seating will be left for open
for walk-in availability.

MORE MUSIC N"STUFF
"YOWWWWW,
BABY!!!!!!!!! IT'S TIME TO HOWWWWWL!!!!"
Yep, that's right... this Friday evening, right after 1st Friday
events wrap up here in Fennville, we're takin' the whole shebang
to Holland... What's that?? HOLLAND, you say???? Yas, yas, I
know, I know... But trust me - there's a reason. A damn good
one.... Al Weener's all-too-elusive Blues and R & B group
"Undersea Al & The Thirstin' Howlers" will be at
Parrots Lounge (on River Ave, downtown Howl-land) for oneof their
rare appearances hereabouts. Featuring sweet n'gritty/growly
vocals, absolutely smokin' horn charts and fine musicianship
all-around, these cats tear up the mojo-kitchen with a feisty
stew of Blues classics, slipperysmoooooothe R & B and some
fine, fine original material. The wailin' n'howlin' begins about
9:30 or so and trust me, if you haven't heard these guys yet,
you need to. And if you have....um, well then, you KNOW you need
to. Seeya's there!

from Jim Cooper: a reminder about the Sunday Brunch that's going
on at Pumpernickles. 202 Butler St. downtown Saugatuck from 10:30
- 2:30 pm. Jim's playing the piano mostly downstairs and expanding
his repertoire, doing everything from light classics, pop tunes,
jazz standards and even boogie.Guests can choose either to partake
of the buffet upstairs or order off the menu.

Robbins Table
Company Art Nouveau Extension Table & Chairs Oak
$4,000. Robbins Table Company was established in Owosso Michigan
in 1873. They began as a furniture manufacturer and patented
the design of the extension table with a built in storage area
to hold the extra leaves in 1896. In the 1920's they started
shifting towards being a furniture retailer instead of manufacturer.
They changed the name of the company to Robbins Furniture Company.
All furniture manufacturing ceased in the 1940's. The retail
store closed in 2001. The original extension tables by Robbins
Table Company are prized by collectors. This dining table is
a prime example or their work. The side trim has a small knob
to pull open the panel to reveal the storage area for the leaves.
There is a metal tag inside the panel that read, "Robbins
Table Co. Established 1873, Owosso Mich." The extension
tables were made of oak and ash. I believe this one is Black
Oak. The style is Art Nouveau with curved legs, claw feet and
scalloped shell accents. There is a large center post that is
solid. The table without any leaves measures 48 1/2" long
and 44" wide. With one leaf it measures 60". There
are 4 leaves total. Each leaf measures 11 3/8". Fully extend
the table measures 94", just under 8 ft long. The chairs
were purchased at a different time than the table. They are also
oak but manufacturer unknown. They are in great shape. The only
flaw I could find is a fine crack in the table that looks like
it's been there for a long time.

Vintage Karastan Kirman 782 Wool Rug 9' x 12'
$1,400. Early Karastan wool rug dating from the 1940's. Karastan
started making rugs in 1928 and is still in business today. The
Kirman pattern was made for the 1933-34 World's Fair in Chicago
and shown again in the New York World's Trade Fair of 1939-1940.
This particular rug dates back three family generations. It was
purchased in Chicago in the 1940's. This rug has it's original
tags on the back, "The Wonder of America" a slogan
coined during the fair. Machine woven in the USA. Worshen yarn,
all wool face. The pattern is Kirman #782. It measures 9 feet
by 12 feet. The Kirman pattern was based on the famous Persian
rugs from the city of Kerman. This rug has rich deep colors of
blue, rose pink and burgundy.CONTACT KATHY MCMAHON (269) 561-5252

ThirdStone exclusive news flash:
A photo of
a second, previously unknown version of a well-known family portrait
painting by Flemish Renaissance Painter, Michel Sittow was released
today by ThirdStone Associate International Curator, Telpo Lendolotoproj...
Mr. Lendolotoproj's speculation is that it was made by the artist
as a sarcastic lampoon of what might be assumed to have been
'difficult' clients. Decidedly NOT 'tongue-in-cheek' by any means.
The painting was discovered in a root cellar in the basement
of a flower shop located in a several hundred year old building
in Istanbul. Found by workmen who had been called to fix a leaking
gas pipe when one of the men lost his footing and slipped on
the wet floor, subsequently falling against a rotted wood panel
covering a long-unused alcove in the basement wall.

Hi kids,
This week's
newsletter's reaching y'all a bit late... Seems your miscreant

so, here we go...
THIRDSTONE

Thanks to
all of you who helped to make our extended holiday show such
a big success... It was great to get to visit with so many of

THIRDSTONE GALLERY WINTER BREAK
Yup... after promising myself one for the past 11 years, I'm
actually gonna do it this year in another feeble yet fervent
attempt at my annual "bruce-have-a-life" program/pogrom.
So..we'll just have to wait and see how alla that works out.
In any case, to give myself some time to finally launch our new
website, visit with some friends, play my guitars and make some
art in my studio, ThirdStone will be 'avoiding' regular weekend
hours for the next three weekends.. We will however, be hosting
a February 1st Friday in Funnville event so, stay tuned for news
on that next time. During this semi-hiatus, we're still available
by appointment if ya call 269-561-8149 or email " bruce@thirdstoned.com.
Our Spring
Show Schedule will be announced in the next issue....
Okay, there's
LOTS of other stuff goin' on around the area.... have a look

IN OTHER LOCAL NEWS...
NEW SHOW AT
GEBBEN - GRAY: Oil and Water to open at gebben gray gallery gebben|gray|gallery
proudly announces its exhibition of new work, Oil and Water,
by artists Melanie Parke and Richard Kooyman. This husband and
wife duo from a small, northwest Michigan village gain inspiration
from their surroundings and one another. Only five miles from
Lake Michigan's shoreline, they both incorporate the expansive
scenery of the Great Lake in many of their paintings. It is the
vastness that they are drawn to, and through a careful combination
of colors and expert brushwork, their work evokes strong emotional
responses.
The couple's
paintings have received many prestigious awards and are on display
across the country. This new exhibition features a combination
of oil on canvas and gouache on paper paintings. Parke's loose
brushwork allows the mood to dominate the specifics; she wants
the image to offer a lasting sense of wonder, restfulness or
contemplation. Kooyman has recently begun painting flowers; he
is proud of these pieces for their heightened level of authenticity
and feels they represent some of his best work to date.
Gallery owners
Kristin Gebben and Theresa Gray are delighted to work with and
represent Parke and Kooyman. The four enjoy spending time together
and Gray says, "We are enormously proud to carry such quality
work done by such wonderful people."
Meet the artists
at this exciting new exhibit on Saturday, November 11, from 6:00
9:00 P.M. at gebben|gray|gallery. The gallery is located
on 120 E. Main Street in downtown Fennville. To learn more about

ThirdStone 1st Friday News
For this month, we're featuring
the introduction of several new ThirdStone artists that we've
ben planning on showing you for quite some time. I think you'll

some more recent "escapees" selected from the ThirdStone
archives.
And, as a special treat, our
first showing of the strikingly beautiful new encaustic paintings
from longtime ThirdStone fave, Susan Mulder..ya gotta
see these!
------------------------------
Our downstairs neighbors, Gebben - Gray Gallery will feature
a group show of works from all of their regular artists. This
is a terrific opportunity to see the amzing range of works they
feature throughout the year.
------------------
PLUS (more first friday stuff)..ya gotta EAT, right????):
Our next door neighbor, Journeyman
Cafe will be featuring live music from 7 til 9, with Dave
Raffenaud on Piano and Rick Slachta on Bass. And, more big news;
Matt got his liquor license just last week and is now featuring
a wondrous array of fine wines and beers along with his always
interesting and innovative menu of delicious offerrings.
--------------------------------------
Another great First Friday dining option is of course just down
the street at Su Casa, West Michigan's absolute best and
most authentic Mexican cuisine. And Edgar Jr. tells me that the
new building is again moving along quickly and that we can look
forward to it opening soon. We'll be sure to keep you posted.
In the meantime though, they're always ready to welcome you and
feed ya well at their existing location. Lots of good stuff in
their store too.
------------------------------------------
And, a new addition to the First Friday pallette..Stevens
Hotel Restaurant and Grill owner Gary has cooked up a "Pizza
and Pitcher" special for 1st Fridays: A large 3 item pizza
and a pitcher of beer for only $18.25
*Besides that, the Stevens Hotel
figures into First Friday in a somewhat unexpected way too in
that we now know who's to credit (or perhaps "blame")
for coining the name "Funnville"....
Come to find out that, as many
may have assumed, it wasn't little old me after all.... In fact,
it was none other than Frank Stevens, the owner of that fine
establishment up til the mid 50's.
On a recent visit there, current
owner Gary McCracken, pointed out to me a big handpainted banner
sign right above the bar proclaiming the town "Funnville".
While we don't know exactly when Frank painted that sign (Frank
Stevens was quite a talented artist, by the way..many of his
paintings are still hanging in the bar and dining room there...and
some would definitely fit right in here at ThirdStone too!),
we do know that it was already there in 1954 when Gary's parents
bought the Hotel.
And we all thought "FUNNVILLE"
was a NEW designation! Harrumph..
I hope to see LOTS of you this
Friday to join in the funn. Funnville's a great place to spend
a friday evening seeing great art, hearing great music and sampling
some of the wonderful dinner fare available all within a few
mere steps of each other. What could be funner n'THAT I ask ya's??!!

Those of who who attended last
year's moving sale circus will no-doubt recall it's epic proportions,
level of ludicrosity and all-around crazy-as-heck fun right along
with alla the "adoptions" of interesting and unusual
treasures and bargains 'molto-fabuloso'.
So.Yeah. that was LAST year's
version... In contemplating how to top it THIS year, I decided
to "recruit" some other purveyors of tasty and interesting
goods to enhance the "mix". The result is that we've
managed to overstuff a giant 30 X 60 foot quonset barn with another
astounding array of groovy stuff. (And, believe it or not, even
a bigger assortment than last time... I kid you not!)
Anyway, we've got antiques, collectibles,
furniture, tools, household stuff, farm equipment, phot gear
stereo gear, studio stuff, artful stuff, appliances, funkjunk,
cool stuff, weird stuff, goofy stuff and even free stuff for
those of you creatively minded. PLUS, the usual-unusual array
of hosbofreens, kollyfriens and splortadas (both electric and
gas powered!)
Here's a partial list:
Lotsa lotsa lamps.. floor lamps,
50's lamps, contemporary lamps and some incredibly ugly lamps
even too!
Furniture of all sorts.. antique,
contemporary, sofas, chairs, bookcases, shelving, some really
nice mid-century pieces, some blond 50's beauties and several
cool Heywood-Wakefield pieces including a buffet, a pair of end
tables and a toocool HW vanity too... There's also some other
mid-century coffeetables and end-tables including a cool amoebas
shaped mahogany 50's classic.
dressers. mirrors, chests, china
cab's, other display cabinets, gun cabinet,
all wood, nearly new dinette
table and pair of chairs
artists' stuff: easels, drawing
table and stools, rolling taboret, frames, etc.
Piles of mirrors of any and all
sorts.
